I’m not sure what came over us. Maybe it was the recent chill that swept over Houston. Perhaps it was that our kitchen had been clean for too long. Or maybe it was those larger-than-baseball-size lemons that came in our farm share this week. Whatever the muse, Scott and I decided that making homemade pasta sounded awesome. And serving it with a rich, creamy, lemony alfredo sauce seemed even more artery clogging awesome. And then serving that with a side of beef tips sounded all the more like the best way to induce a heart attack awesome.
So we did it! And we invited our sweet friends, The Fowlers, parents of our God son, over to join in the feast. And I felt so like my Mema at that moment, having good friends over for an after church meal – it was perfect. Yes, our floors were filthy (I wasn’t aware of that until my God son started crawling on them and then I became keenly aware of every speck of dirt…), the dishes were piled high, my hair was thrown into a haphazard braid down my back, and there were stacks of paper on the office desk. But you know, these things are meaningless. We are made to be in communion with one another, and often times that means inviting people into the mess.
The pasta recipe comes from Smitten Kitchen, and the alfredo sauce recipe was modified from The Pioneer Woman (the only thing I added was 1 Tbls. of lemon juice and 1 teaspoon of lemon zest). Scott made the beef tips from a recipe in his brain (he is much braver than I to just try something).
Now go make yo’self some pasta! And embrace the mess!
Dirt on my feet and flour in my hair,
